Fantasty Florals card in December!

Hello everyone! Are you all ready for Christmas or other holiday you celebrate? I’m only ready decoration and present wise, I’ve barely sent any Christmas cards (which is kind of ironic really when you think about it as I’m mostly making cards) nor have I planned the meals we will have over the holidays. Still not a lot of festive spirit going on here to be honest, although we did have our second snow fall over night which got our hopes for a white Christmas up!

Card making wise, I’m ready for something other than Christmas and snow theme and today’s card is anything but: Green, bright and flowery! Yes, in the middle of winter. Am I a rebel or what?? LOL!

I have some new goodies I wanted to play with and the Fantasy Floral 3D Die Set is one of them. The Sketched Lines Stencil is another one. There is a great promotion over at Altenew right now: 15% off stencils and Ink sprays with the code ‘HAPPYWEEK2017’ Both stencils and ink sprays are great fun to play around with but for this card I’m only using a stencil as I wanted to keep my texture paste white. The ink sprays are fun ways to add colour and shimmer to your projects though so this offer is a great opportunity to add some to your stash or even try them for the first time.

I’ve linked all the goodies I’ve used for this card with affiliate links to Altenew. That means if you click on one of the links and end up buying something (and why shouldn’t you?) I will get a small commission, at no extra cost to you so thank you in advance if you do this!

For this card I actually only stamped one single thing and that was the ‘hello’ sentiment (which is from the Winter Rose Stamp Set) Everything else is coloured, die cut and stencilled with texture paste. I even made my own coloured card stock for the flower dies using Red Cosmos  and Green Fields alcohol markers from the Artist Markers Set A.

Using a couple of the dies as a guide I coloured rectangular boxes on alcohol marker friendly paper (this is Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110# card stock cut in half) with the Red Cosmos markers.  Once the boxes were sufficiently covered with colours (take your time with this for a smooth look or leave it slightly stripy like I have for a more natural look) I cut out different pieces in the different colours so that they would all be unique once layered together.

For the leaves I wanted a slightly lighter look so I used vellum instead of card stock. On the back of the vellum I scribbled the Green Fields Artist Markers  all over, let it dry and cut out the leaves using the two biggest dies.

On a bigger piece of Neenah card stock I used the Green Fields markers again to make a nice, vivid green background. It turned into a bit of an ombré look, which is one of my favorite colour looks as you get several shades of the same colour. Perfect for when you can’t decide on just one colour. I used my Sketched Lines Stencil and white texture paste all over this and set it aside to dry. It came out great!

I glued all the flower layers together and once all dry, I puzzled them and the vellum leaves how I wanted them to go on the card. Gently putting a sheet of card stock over  them, I turned the whole shebang over and added foam tape to both keep things together and add height and dimension to the card. I used this grouping as a guide where I wanted my sentiment strip to go but did not add it to the card just yet.

On a slim strip of vellum I heat embossed the sentiment ‘Hello’ from the Winter Rose stamp set with Golden Peach Crisp Embossing Powder. It may be my new favorite colour of Altenew’s amazing array of embossing powders, it’s just beautiful. This strip of vellum I adhered to the background by wrapping it around and secured it with double sided tape. Once that was secured, I adhered the whole thing to a plain white card base. The flower cluster was also added and while I was on a roll, a good sprinkling of iridescent sequins finished off the card.

With that, I’m off to get back to the Christmas preparations.

From myself and all of mine, to you and all of yours: Happy holidays, whatever you celebrate!

    1. Thank you so much, TaeEun! I thought it was rather clever myself to be honest 🙂 I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one!
