I recently got my greedy little hands on the absolutely gorgeous Mega Succulent from Altenew and I couldn’t wait to ink it up! I started out by stamping it directly onto a card base of Neenah Classic Crest 110 card stock, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. After consulting my Sandy Allnock Copic hex chart I grabbed V17, V25, BV11, G21, G43, G82 and YG91.
It took me quite a while to get the whole thing coloured, shaded and highlighted where I wanted it. It is a labour of love to colour this stamp with Copics but I’m really pleased with how it came out and as I really like colouring it’s no biggie that it takes two days to do one image. If you want to see more progress pictures like this one, hop on over to my Instagram feed HERE and have a look/browse/get inspired or avoid a mistake I have just made.
As I had coloured the stamp directly onto my card base I decided to just add a big impact diecut sentiment wise. I got another new one in the same Altenew craft haul as the stamp, the ‘thinking of you’ and it was perfect for this. I cut it out of both foam sheet and Black Velvet card stock from Tonic Studios, layered them up and added them to the card front.
I could have left it there but nooooooo…. I looked through my selection of Nuvo Jewel Drops, also from Tonic Studios, and after deciding on Key Lime, I added lots of little dots along the petals of the succulent and set the card aside to dry.
As it was a beautiful sunny day, I decided to do another one, only in water colours this time. On Canson XL water colour card stock, which I first used my anti-static tool on, I stamped the Mega Succulent again, in VersaMark ink this time. The embossing powder I decided on, after at the last minute switching from white, was Antique Gold. This one is from Altenew and I really, really like their embossing powders. They melt beautifully and come in a great selection of colours.
After rummaging around in my little box of Daniel Smith water colour tubes and consulting my colour swatch (if you want a little peek, click HERE), I settled for Spring Green, Undersea Green, Cascade Green and Phthalo Turquoise. Once I had dabbed a small blob of each one on my palette, I got all my supplies together and headed on outside to bask in the glorious sunshine whilst colouring.
The finished flower ended up quite light and it looks lovely with the gold embossing as a contrast. Because I didn’t want to cover it up, I used the same ‘thinking of you’ diecut and cut it out of the panel. I did another one out of foam sheet (of course) and puzzled it all together onto a card base, to raise the sentiment up.
For this card I resisted the temptation to add anything else, as I try to challenge myself to make very different cards using the same supplies. Some days it’s easier than others…

Well, that’s enough jibber-jabbering from me today, I’m off to watch Sweden destroy England in the World Cup quarter final now (that had better happen or I will never hear the end of it from The Man!) Thanks for stopping by!
Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
