Tonic Studios Stamp Club Compassion & Poppies Blog Hop!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m delighted to be one of the stops on the Tonic Studios Stamp Club release blog hops. This month’s bundle is called Compassion & Poppies, and consists of a stamp set and coordinating diecuts. They will only be sold as a bundle, and are exclusive to Tonic Studios so grab them while you can! Once they are sold out, they are gone!

This is a monthly stamp release, and will be available the last Friday of every month (with exceptions made for holidays) It’s not a club or subscription based program, so there is no commitment or forced buying, it’s simply a small, but fabulous, stamp release.

You can get it both from the UK Tonic Studios shop and the US Tonic Studios shop, but if you want it, make sure to get it fast. Don’t dilly-dally, the last bundle sold out so fast, so better safe than sorry!

There is of course a prize to be won, a blog hop wouldn’t be complete without one, right? One lucky winner will win the entire bundle, as well as a £50/$50 Giftcard to Tonic Studios! How is that for awesome-sauce? Leave a comment on this blog to a chance to win, and the more you hop and comment, the bigger your chance to win. Comments can be made until March 3rd 11.59PM PST/7.59am GST March 4th, and winner will be announced on March 5th!

The entire line-up can be found at the bottom of this post, and you next stop is my talented friend Janette Kausen!

So, full disclosure, my goodies only arrived 24hrs ago, so it has been a bit of a scramble. I only finished one full card but if I manage to make more, I will share them over on my Instagram.

I started by stamping the big flower image with Black Hybrid ink on Neenah paper with my MISTI, as I wanted to do some Copic colouring. I started out with reds, greens and cool greys, but decided to skip out on the greens in favour of colouring the leaves grey for a dramatic look.

A bit of masking here and there protected my flowers, and I heat embossed the two leaves from the stamp set in Platinum from WOW! Embossing powder. It goes so well with the grey on the leaves, and adds that gorgeous shine to the card. I made sure to use my anti-static tool generously before, as the paper was still a bit wet from the colouring.

I used my WOW! heat tool to set the powder. I love this tool, thanks to the dual settings you have so much more control over the heat and that’s always a good thing.

To add some drama to the card, I ink blended some Hickory Smoke and Black Soot around the edges, using my Blender Brushes. This not only adds drama, but also draws the eye in to the star of the show: the poppies.

The final touch was to heat emboss one of the sentiments onto black card stock. I used Platinum again, for a cohesive look, and trimmed it down to a slim banner before adhering it with liquid glue.

Well, that’s it from me for now, and it’s time to hop on. Or get your shop on! I have used some compensated affiliate links in this post, for your convenience. These links do not cost you anything extra at all, however if you use them I get a small commission from the company directly. Picket Fence Studios December Release!

Hello, hello!

Today’s post is all about the last release of the year from Picket Fence Studios! There are some fantastic stencils, as always, and I have done my usual thing of making loads of backgrounds whilst getting to know them.

In this post I’ll show a few of the ones I made with the release, including the Slim Line Waves Stencil, but there is also a Slim Line Cloud Coverage Stencil! Of course, this stencil will work on pretty much any sized card.

I did make a card with the Cloud Coverage stencil, after ink blending a rainbow cloud background. I paired it with a sweet Copic coloured doggie from Pet All Of The Dogs and a sentiment from Stella Puppy.

To cut the pieces out and to make a card base, I used the Slim Line Diecutting System, as well as the coordinating diecut for the Pet All Of The Dogs set.

Another couple of great additions to the stencil range are the sunburst ones. One has the sun in the middle, Burst Of Sun Stencil, and one is a corner one, Corner Sun Stencil.

As I love the Paper Glazes, I had to make a card with them and this stencil. On black card stock I used Golden Rose and the look is so bold and strong! I love it!

I finished it off by heat embossing the microphone and a sentiment from the Do Good Recklessly set, in Metallic Rich Gold from WOW! That’s all this one needed.

Of course I also had to do some ink blending with the Burst Of Sun Stencil, and lots of us in the design team had similar ideas, lol! I blocked off two rays for each colour and did them in a rainbow fashion, using Distress Oxide inks. From 12 o’clock, clockwise, I have used Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade and Twisted Citron.

I did leave the middle white, where I stamped up the HB2U from Do Good Recklessly, with Black Hybrid Ink.

I did finish my card off with a few… a generous… fine! It’s a tsunami of sequins from the Gin & Tonic sequin mix.

And now… the star of the show, for me, is the Slim Line Waves Stencil. I absolutely love it!

Oh my goodness, I made so many backgrounds with the Slim Line Waves Stencil! These are just the ones made with ink blending and then that stencil press printing technique I like, where you spritz your stencil with water after ink blending and “print” the pattern on water colour paper by pressing down firmly on it.

I have only finished off a card with one of those panels, because I am that crazy one that can’t bear to cover up fabulous backgrounds too much so I could not figure out what to do with them. But oh well.. what a problem to have, right?

I also L-O-V-E how this Paper Glaze experiment turned out! I started with Black Pansy all over the stencil, then added small blobs of Daffodil Yellow, Cornflower Blue and Agapantha Purple, which I then smeared all over using the flat spatula in the Mixed Media Tool bundle.

It kind of looks like a petrol spill, doesn’t it? Or a galaxy! I just love how this look.

I also used DecoFoil Transfer Gel Duo and rainbow foil from Therm-o-web, for this AAHHHH-mazing panel! Gah, I love it so much! I also used the negative from the foil and adhered that to a card base by covering that in double sided adhesive sheets first. So cool, right??

I only finished off the big panel, by cutting it down using the Slim Line Diecutting System and added a heat embossed sentiment from I Freaking Love You.

So, here we have it! The December release from Picket Fence Studios is now live and I have used compensated affiliate links in this post, for your convenience, at no extra cost to you. What that means is I get a small commission from the company directly, if you shop using these links.

I will have videos coming for a lot of these cards too so make sure you are subscribed to my YouTube channel, and hit that notification bell so you get notified of new videos. There is a video there now, showing off the products in the release as well as some of the cards I made so far.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed this post and found some inspiration here with me.

Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

PFS August Release | Stella Puppy Cards

Hi guys!!

Where are my fellow crazy dog people at? In this month’s Picket Fence Studio release there is a super cute puppy stamp called Stella Puppy.

It looks so much like my sweet Lab boy Hercules, who we lost back in 2016 after a very short, but ferocious health issue battle. Less than six weeks after that, we lost our remaining Lab, called Molly, in a tragic accident. The cards I got from friends after we lost them meant the world to me, because losing a fur baby, never mind two, is one of the most gut wrenching things you can ever go through.

I’ve made two card, doing my thing where they are similar but slightly different. On the first card I stamped the Stella Puppy up with my MISTI and Black Hybrid ink directly onto a card base of Neenah card stock. After setting the ink with my WOW! Embossing heat tool, I got to work with Copics. I don’t have a photo of the first one, but here is the second one I did.

I wanted to add a rainbow on the background but I don’t have a rainbow stencil *insert shocked gasps and wide-eyed looks here* I know, it’s shocking. So, what to do? Well, I made my own! First I cut out a mask and added over most of the doggie, then I used a small bowl to cut out a curved shape out of card stock. This I used as a stencil/mask and ink blended Ink On 3 Atelier Inks in Bee Sting Yellow, Goddess Green, Peacock Blue, My Jam Purple and Marilyn Red with Life Changing Blender Brushes.

My brushes are a little bit over-saturated and need a spa day, and I should have used a new mask for each colour, as they blended into each other BUT it did also give me an extra teal colour between green and blue. The last bit, in the top left corner, I should have skipped because I feel like it got too dark, but oh well.

On white card stock I stamped up some sentiments from the Stella Puppy set with Black Hybrid ink. These I trimmed down as much as I could and then added over some areas where I wasn’t happy the colouring and ink blending had overlapped.

The final touch was to add some Glossy Accents to the little nose and set it aside to dry.

On my second card, for which there is a video on my YouTube channel, I tried applying what I learnt from the first card. With some success and some more issues. Card making is never straightforward in my craft room, lol!

For this, I decided to stamp up the Stella Puppy on a separate piece of Copic friendly card stock, with my Mini MISTI with the Black Hybrid Ink, colour it in and then fussy cut it out. I used slightly different colour Copics on this one and I think the depth is better, than the first one, so that was good. You can see the difference in the photo above.

Second, I used a sheet of acetate to make my “stencil”, instead of card stock. The reasoning for this is that with acetate I can just wipe off the ink, and have less contamination. Good start. Less good execution. I used a, what I thought was, permanent marker to draw the shape of the curve of the rainbow. Well, it was less permanent and more smudgy than I realised, which led to a slightly dirty looking yellow bit. I trimmed off the part with the marker on it, and carried on.

I used the same Atelier Inks on this one, in the same order, after wiping my Life Changing Blender Brushes on kitchen towels. I also used a lighter hand with the inks.

With the negative part of the stencil/mask I was able to add more green to the background, without mixing in the blue. This is better explained in the video, but I didn’t add enough green or moved the stencil/mask too far when I did the blue, which left a gap. By covering up the blue with the negative bit, I was able to add the green without contaminating the blue. Pretty smart, huh?

On this card, I stamped up the sentiments, again from Stella Puppy, directly onto the card base with Black Hybrid ink. Then I adhered the fussy cut puppy with liquid glue and added the Glossy Accent to the nose.

There is another sweet pet stamp in the release called Your Friend Dear. I’ve done the same thing with this stamp: basically the same layout, but different looks.

This was the one I started with, and I actually stopped midway because I was not very happy with the colouring of the dog. I couldn’t make it work!

In order to get me out of that funk, I stamped it up again and tried another colour combination, this time with Warm Greys. This worked better and I finished off the card with a very colourful girl, and a simple sentiment from Levels Of Friendship. And the Glossy Accent again.

With this one being a success, and also my meh-ness about the first one having died down a little, I thought I’d give it another go. I’m very glad I did because I did actually manage to turn it around!

To make sure this one was different than the first one, with all that white space, I cut a mask out and placed over the image. Over this I used the Fancy Kaleidoscope stencil and Distress Oxide inks in Wild Honey, Worn Lipstick and a hint of Abandoned Coral. They created this gorgeous glow around the image and I love how it turned out!

The final touch for this card was to stamp up the sentiment that comes with Your Friend Dear, in Black Hybrid ink and with that, it was all done. The last two cards are not in it, but there is a video for one of the rainbow puppy cards on my YouTube channel.

The August release from Picket Fence Studio is now available and if you shop any of these links, which are compensated affiliate links to various companies, I will get a small commission directly from the company it’s affiliated with. It won’t cost you anything extra at all, but the potential earnings from these links will keep my blog, YouTube and Instagram fresh and fun. Thank you so much if you choose to support me this way.

Pity party for one, please

Hi *waves weakly and slightly dramatically*

I’m having a pity party for one over here, being all woman-down with terrible period pains. Not everyone is ok with talking about periods and woman stuff so I totally get it if you are running for the hills right now. Well, I am ok talking about mine and I’m not ashamed of it. If I had my way, I wouldn’t have a period at all so I won’t be silenced about having to suffer something I have no control over. It really isn’t a walk in the park being female some days, am I right or am I right?? *I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR* Or right now it’s more like mewling like an irate kitten if I am being honest. Well, ok, that escalated quickly, let’s move on to the card, shall we?

Back when I first started playing with alcohol inks I didn’t have that many colours, it was mostly red and pinks, as well as gold and silver mixatives. One of my first pieces ended up looking like someone had slaughtered a bottle of red ink, rather than artistically add drops of it to the paper. Have a look at the video HERE.

Untitled_Artwork 57

I jokingly said it at one point looked like it would only be useable as a ‘Sorry you have your period’ sympathy card, due to it being SO red, and after thinking about it for a while, I decided to make one! To spell out the ‘sorry’ part, I used Altenew’s Bold Alphabet dies and cut them out of the alcohol ink panel. I also cut out foam sheet letters to back them, in order to raise them up from the background.

Untitled_Artwork 56

The card itself is quite big, it’s 5.1″x7.1″, so I could use whole panel and also make sure the ‘Sorry’ bit fit comfortably (Because comfort is important during your period!) Once the background was adhered to it, I puzzled the letters and foam sheet pieces together and added some black rhinestones to them. Just because having your period is blah doesn’t mean a Period Sympathy card has to be bland, right?

Untitled_Artwork 60

On a piece of white card stock I spelled out ‘you have your period’ using the Thick and Thin Alphabet stamps. For the ‘you have your’ bit I used the thin letters and stamped them in Silver Stone ink twice, this one comes both in a 4 Oval ink bundle as well as a mini ink cube set. For the ‘period’ bit I used the thick letters and stamped them in Ruby Red ink. You can get that one in a 4 Oval inks bundle or as a mini cube too

Untitled_Artwork 59

Using a scalpel I cut the piece down and added it to the card with foam tape. A few black rhinestones ended up on this part too. With that the card is done! Now all it needs is a very sympathetic message inside it, get wrapped up with some chocolate and posted off/given away in person. It needs to be said that this isn’t the kind of everyday card and you might need to make sure the recipient is open to this kind of humour during her period. I can go from blob on the sofa to “the Kraken has been released”-mode in a matter of a split second during mine so you know.. thread carefully. Maybe just leave it on her doorstep or in the mail box and run for your life?

Untitled_Artwork 61

Oh, if she’s into craft stuff, have her check out the new Altenew release!! OMG, it’s another stunner! I want so many things from it, and in the number one spot I think is the  Mega Succulent stamp! Or the Sweet Rose Bouquet stamp, now that is a stunner. If I had to pick just one item though, it would be the March 2018 Stamp & die bundle. Now I know what you are thinking ‘that’s not ONE item, it’s all of them’ BUT here is my reasoning (and don’t argue with a woman in the midst of a PMS temper tantrum) it is ONE BUNDLE, hence ONE ITEM. See? That works, right? Well, that’s my stance on the discussion and I’m sticking to it.

I have used compensated affiliate links for all the products mentioned in the post, which means that I will get a small commission directly from Altenew, as no extra cost to you if you choose to buy a thing or two. (My ‘one item’ argument doesn’t seem so silly now, does it?? LOL!) Thank you in advance if you choose to support me and my little blog this way. I really appreciate it!

Right, I’m off to be super busy vegging on the sofa with my, hopefully ready-for-a-rest-day chicas and a chick flick. With some chocolate of course. And my heat pad… Oh, and coffee. Maybe some popcorn. Anyone else turn into an eating machine during their period? Wanna set up a support group?

Happy weekend and crafting from a very mopey Erica
