Fleece Navidad for MFT Sketch Challenge 409

Hi everyone!

Today is my last post as a guest designer for the MFT Stamps Wednesday Sketch Challenge. Whilst it’s bitter-sweet to say bye for now, I have had such a great time and I wanted to say a big huge Thank You to MFT Stamps for giving me this opportunity. It’s been amazing and by far the biggest thing that’s happened to me in my crafting journey!

Right, before I turn into a right old Soppy Poppy, I’m going to get to the card and the sketch itself. This week it looks like this:

I wanted to use the llamas from Happy Llamadays as I have not used them yet. I also wanted to include felt again, as I did for Sketch 407 which you can find HERE.

In the end, I used quite a few sets for this card! Apart from the Happy Llamadays, and it’s coordinating die-namic (I love me a coordinating diecut, ain’t nobody got time for fussy cutting!) I also used the Fa La La die-namic for the first time, the Snow Flurry stencil and the standalone hills die-namic.

The Snow Flurry  stencilled piece I did for another card, but didn’t end up using it so I thought, why not use it now? Piece of cake, it’s already done! As it was all white, I decided to use the Fa La La die-namic on it and either ink blend something on the background or maybe do something with alcohol inks.

A light bulb went off when I had cut the panel and I grabbed my stash of felt! I thought it would look fab with some of it peeking through the holes but what colour to choose? Instead of picking just one, I cut strips of it using a Fiskars circle… knife?… blade thingy…  (I have no idea what it is called but it is a genius tool!) in five different shades of blue and green.

After prepping a white card base with double sided tape, it was a quick job of adhering the strips of felt in alternating colours to create a fun pattern.

Once it was covered in felt, I adhered the stencilled piece on top and added the little cutouts from the Fa La La letters.

While I had my felt out, I started cutting out pieces using the hills die-namic. Lots and lots of them! These I layered up on a piece of card stock I had trimmed down to roughly the size of the bottom panel of the sketch. The look I was after was a very fluffy snow scene for my llamas.

Speaking of the llamas, they are coloured using Copics and diecut with the coordinating die-namic. I’ve gone for quite a muted colour scheme for them but couldn’t resist adding some stars to the present using a gold gel pen.

To finish off the card it needed more of a sentiment than the ‘Fa La La ‘ and to go with the felt and soft, tactile look of the card, I used ‘Fleece Navidad’ from the Happy Llamadays. This is stamped on a strip of white card stock and trimmed down a bit. It’s not as big as in the sketch but it just didn’t look right to leave it too long.

This card is very thick and chunky, so it’s probably best to give this to someone in person. Or mail it in a box! It’s nearly 1/3 of an inch/1cm thick in places. But it sure is fun and I had a great time making it!

This post is littered with affiliate links to all the MFT Stamps products I have used for this card. I would be so grateful if you would consider using these when you treat yo’self/stock up/get life-essential crafting goodies as I get a small commission from MFT Stamps directly, at no cost to you whatsoever. It all helps, no matter how small an order and I really appreciate the support.

Thanks again for stopping by! Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Guest Designing for Inspired By All The Little Things challenge #86!

Hello, hello! Today I’m back with another card and post as the May Guest Designer  for Inspired By All The Little Things challenge blog. This is Challenge #86! The inspiration photo for this challenge is very different from Challenge #85, with vivid colours and textures. Isn’t it just lovely? I could so picture some of those glass feathers hanging in my window, catching the sunshine and the colourful prisms bouncing off the walls. Actually, hang on a minute….. *Makes mental note for future craft room*

6E35B242-4181-4ED9-9AFC-7EAF48C52114

My first idea was to basically stamp up feathers on a card and the colour them in with the same colours as in the photo. Sounds cool, doesn’t it? Only problem was I realised I don’t have a feather stamp in my stash…! What? How..? Once I got over the shock of not having exactly the right stamp to work with, my mind was very set on a specific one of course and anything else simply wouldn’t do. Oh no. Impossible! (My inner crafty drama queen was having a full-on temper tantrum!)

Right, plan B: Alcohol ink background with similar colours as in the inspiration photo and stencilled texture paste over it. Using Ranger Ink Alcohol inks on Yupo paper, I played around this way and that, until I had a very colourful and vivid piece to work with. The colours I used are Caramel, Sailboat Blue, Indigo, Pistachio, Coral, Cranberry, Honeycomb and Rose Gold mixative. In the photo you can see how they look once dried on the Yupo paper. For this piece I used Translucent Yupo, rather than my usual Yupo.

I use a little air blower to puff the colours around as it gives me a headache to blow on them and breathe in the fumes. Even when I have the window open! This pump is very cheap but so helpful. If you want something similar, I got this one from Amazon but you can also check out local photography shops.

To bring in the feather element to the card, I used a stencil from Hero Arts called Peacock Feathers and Ranger Ink texture paste. The one I used is a Opaque Matte (I really like it but it doesn’t seem to be able as a single tub anymore) and I spread a very thin layer on the alcohol ink piece using a spatula.

45D3D43F-8CEC-4193-9338-68904F8BD857

Once it was all dry, I cut out a panel using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectable stackable lawncuts and added foam tape to the back of it. This I adhered to a white A2 card base, made out of Neenah Classic Crest 110# card stock, and set aside for the time being.

To finish it off I got out some MFT Stamps goodies: a really lovely and useful stamp and dienamic set called Because You. It comes with a ‘because’ word diecut and some sweet stamp sentiments you can mix’n’match for all sorts of occasions and recipients. The ‘because’ I cut out of card stock with my BigShot and dabbed on my VersaMark ink pad before dusting it very generously with Altenew Platinum embossing powder and melting it with my heatgun. I’m a big fan of the embossing powders from Altenew, they are gorgeous!

22F8FD16-4CA1-400D-B84C-52C54EE386DE

I also cut out a frame in platinum coloured linen textured card stock, using a mix of two different MFT Stamps dienamic sets, Stitched Rectangle Frames and Stitched Mini Scallop Rectangles, as I didn’t have one that was just what I wanted and the right size. I like calling this ‘Crafting MacGyvering’, from the 90’s tv-show MacGyver. Makes me feel very clever indeed, lol!

4C9BC2BD-AA39-4440-899D-7169655CE2BE

The sentiment was finished off with ‘You know just what to say to make me feel better’ which is stamped on white card stock in two blue Altenew inks to create a mottled effect. The two I used are called Tide Blue and Starlight. These you can get separate or as a 4-pack called Deep Blue Seas, both in the big oval pads and mini cubes.

8563357C-774F-4126-84EB-132B6300AE3F

To put the card together I used both foam tape and my fine tip glue pen. First the frame went on, then the ‘because’ and finally the sentiment stripe with foam tape. I toyed with the idea of adding some sequins but surprisingly decided against it. I know, I’m shocked myself…

Pink Monochromatic card with lots of glimmer and shimmer for a glamorous birthday girl!

Hello, hello!

Today’s post is a quick one to show you a card I made for this week’s Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, where the cue is ‘Sparkle and Shine’.

3E4BBA52-B528-4B3B-92AD-8CC511332982

I used an A2 panel cut out of Tonic Studios Black Velvet card stock which I stencilled with Peony Pink Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. The stencil is Tim Holtz Gothic Layering Stencil and I used it just along the side of the panel. The shimmer you get from the Nuvo Embellishment Mousses is amazing, if you like shimmer, you will love these! Tonic Studios also have a stunning collection of mirror, metallic and shimmer card stock. I’m a big fan!

8395F904-36CD-4FDA-861A-B70804D1D15D

The idea I had was to show a sentiment through a diecut so I cut out a stitched circle using a SSS diecut. I didn’t end up using that idea, instead I put a glimmery pink card stock behind it and adhered all this to a white card base.

I stamped up ‘Friend’ from the SSS Stained Glass Love Stamp set on Neenah Classic Crest #110 card stock and coloured then in with pink Copic markers. This I cut out using the coordinating diecut and set aside.

B8286783-713C-44A9-B65B-A12B5AF1E54D

On a slim strip of white card stock I stamped up ‘It’s Your Birthday’ with VersaMark ink, after dusting this card stock with my anti-static tool. The embossing powder I used is Altenew’s Rose Gold embossing powder and I set this with my heat gun.

This card came together pretty easy after all these bits were done, it just took a quick minute to decide where they were going to go and then adhering them to the card base. I also added a few puffy heart stickers from Doodlebug Design Inc’s , the ones I used are called Tiny Hearts ,to the card and with that I was done.

Always Here For You, Friend

Hello and happy Wednesday!

I’m popping in today with another card I made for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge. The cue ‘Add some Texture’ was very inspiring to me. If you know me and my crafting style it’s usually all about layers, dimension and textures so this was pretty much the perfect challenge.

2089EAE1-A667-444D-9D97-D0C0090A486F

I started out by blending some Distress Oxides inks on some Bristol Vellum water colour card stock. The colours I used are Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Abandoned Coral and Picked Raspberry from bottom to the top. These colours just look divine together, don’t you agree?

F81D53E2-F2BE-401D-A550-4EF41BD8E1B4

To get that lovely dotted look I also splattered some water on it and lifted it with a towel. Whilst that was drying, I settled on a sentiment and I went for SSS Stained Glass Love, using the ‘friend’ image. Because I couldn’t decide on exactly what colour I wanted it, I did two. One with pink Copic markers and black in and the other one I heat embossed it with Ranger Ink Gold Tinsel embossing powder and coloured it with Zig Clean Color markets in yellows. In the end I went with the yellow one.

FED75A01-59B7-423F-8392-292C881C69AE

Using the coordinating diecut, I cut it out and also stamped up ‘Always here for you’ with black ink on a piece of white card stock. This bit I trimmed down to fit behind the Friend bit. While I was at it, I also cut out a piece of foam sheet to raise it up and add even more texture and dimension.

A171CD72-5280-4223-B787-5198969C1D05

To add the actual texture bit I used a Tim Holtz stencil called Gothic Layering Stencil and a mixture of Ranger Ink white texture paste and Nuvo Embellishment mousse in Lemon Sorbet.

0277FC98-607D-4EF0-9F0B-DF8A20F97326

When that was dry I put all the pieces together and added some clear sparkly sequins to it as well.

8D0F1556-78EF-4448-89F6-BD201BE141EA

I love how this came out and might try it in different colours to make a set. Now that would make a great present, wouldn’t it?

B-O-L-D Birthday card with Nuvo Embellishment Mousses and SSS Circluar Lace stencil

Hello everyone!

Today I’ve got a very textured card for you as I made it with the cue for this week’s challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Add some texture. I was very inspired by my friend Tracy’s card, where she’s used a stencil and glitter amongst other goodies. You should definitely check it out, it’s gorgeous!

I decided to try a very bold look and used my new favorite matte black card stock from Tonic Studios called Black Velvet and Nuvo Embellishment Mousses in different colours. The ones I have used for this card are Royal Aubergine, Peony Pink and Lemon Sorbet.

ADEDDE51-368D-4A0C-A6A0-F9F0923C71D8

This was my first real try with these colours and I didn’t really know just how shimmery they are so I also added some Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Amethyst Purple, just in case they dried less vibrant than they are in the jars. That turned out to be an absolutely needless worry, these mousses dry even more shimmery than when they are wet I think. I’m sold and am already prioritising the order of the next ones I’m getting!

A1A1C084-F057-47EC-9173-635E1E908FA0

Usually when I use stencils I tape them in place with masking tape but for some reason or another, I didn’t with this panel so it’s not as sharp and clean-looking as it normally is. I still loved it though and decided to go ahead and use it.

189D372B-70BC-425A-9157-48DBCE855A57

The stencil I have used is called Circular Lace from Simon Says Stamp and I used a little spatula to spread the embellishment mousse this way and that. There was no real plan to this, I just used all three and covered the panel. Once all the mousse was on, I added a bit of the glimmer paste in a few select places before setting that aside to dry.

903A36BD-F75D-410A-8169-9E7CDDC61329

As the background is like ‘in your face wow’, if I’m allowed to say that myself, I decided to keep the sentient simple and straight to the point. Using another Simon Says Stamp set called Big Birthday Wishes, I got one stamp out that says ‘It’s your birthday’ and stamped that in black ink on a skinny strip of white card stock.

The finish off the sentiment I got out my big ‘Celebrate’ from MFT Stamps and I use this one a lot! I adore the font and the size of it. To add even more texture and dimension to the card, I cut it out of foam sheet, more Black Velvet and also MFT Stamps Brushed Gold card stock. These three I layered so that the gold was on top and the black created a shadow to it, then the final layer was the foam tape to raise it up.

2CD1A683-822F-41E1-8330-C828BA702E4F

The little strip with the sentiment was added to the card and the ‘Celebrate’ was strategically placed so that it covered the end on the left side, to bring it all together.

As this card has so much going on, it was easy to walk away from it at this point and just admire the shimmer. I can absolutely see myself adding more of these Nuvo Embellisment Mousses to my stash! In all honesty, I was less keen on the glitter paste BUT it was my first try with this so it might grow on me.
